Orisha of Love and Sweet Waters | Mother Oshun

In life we have our ancestors, guardian angels, and orishas to protect and defend us in our journey. Depending on what you believe you could have all of these, or one that represents the same thing. In the end no matter what you call them we all have spirit guides to help us through life.

One of the many orishas that can be turned to as a spirit guide is Mother Oshun. Depicted as a gorgeous woman usually dressed in golden/yellow garments it's no wonder she is referred to as the goddess of beauty. Many believe you will find her where there is fresh water such as rivers. Oshun is the protector of the poor, wish granter, mother of all orphans, and goddess of love and fertility to name a few. Being married to Shanga, creator of all in Yeruba religion, makes her have quite the jealousy. His polymerous leaves her to be in a heartbroken mood at times. This is also why when calling upon the orisha it is best to start off with flattery. Though of course loving and prepared to protect those worthy, be careful with what you may promise. The goddess does not take a broken promise lightly.
