Just Keep Dreaming...
“Write your dreams in journal, note book, card or on a cork. When you pen down your dreams, an a inner strength and divine power is activated for your to work towards the fulfillment of your dreams.”
-Lailah Gifty Akita
Everyone dreams while they sleep. The only difference is some people remember theirs, while others don’t. Dreams can be a way to find a solution to your problems that you can’t seem to do while conscious.
What goes on inside of our mind is something that has always interested us from the beginning of time. What we dream is something that can give us a large glimpse of what we subconsciously think and worry about. Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, believed that the content of our dreams are our unconscious wishes. He believed that there were four elements of dream work:
Condensation- information condensed into a single thought or image. Sometimes things may get confusing and dreams appear as confusing fragments. This is because a dream is a bunch of ideas, dreams, and wishes overlapping to make one picture. It may not all make sense to you.
Displacement- disguises emotional meaning of dream by confusing important and insignificant parts of dream. This is an unconscious mechanism. The emotions you feel may not necessarily be associated with what you see occurring in the dream.
Symbolization- this censors ideas by including objects that are meant to symbolize latent content of dream.
Secondary Revisions- the bizarre elements of dreams are reorganized in order to make dreams more understandable.
There are many ways that your dreams can help you. Once you know the general way dreams are made; it can become easier to understand what they’re trying to tell you. Each dream can have a different meaning based on the person. However, there are similar dreams that many people have everyday. It is suggested that you write down dreams once you wake up. They may not make sense in the moment; but they may eventually help you in the long run.
Common Dreams
Struggling to find the bathroom: A common dream had by women (especially mothers). This may be because you have too much to deal with; and you feel like you can’t let go.
Teeth falling out: Another common dream. This may mean that you are unable to ‘digest’ what’s going on in your life.
You’re naked: Being naked in your dream is an extreme way for you to be as vulnerable as you feel in your everyday life. This could mean that you are approaching a task in your life that you feel unprepared for. Though it may not feel good it also could mean freedom and new beginnings coming.
You’re being chased: You’re running away from something that you must face. This could also mean that you’re afraid of exposing yourself.
You’re falling/ wake up feeling like you’re falling: This can happen when you are lucid dreaming. The feeling of not being attached to Earth transfers to the feeling of falling. This could also mean you feel insecure; or are moving too quickly.
You’re flying: You’re accomplishing things leading to success.
Death: As horrible as it may seem it can be viewed as a new beginning.
Specific Death: May be a premonition (only sometimes). This could also mean that you have information for this person that can help them positively progress in their life.
