Spell Jars

Spell jars are an old way of folk magic. Combined with herbs and candle magick spell jars are great for many different things. Such as protection, love, abundance, and more! Depending on the contents and the intention of the jar means what the jar will be used for. While the jars can be used to bring harm to others, it’s always best to use it for oneself.

How To Create A Spell Jar

  1. Define Your Intent- your intent is exactly what it sounds like. What are you making this jar for? Once you’ve decided you can write your intent on a piece of paper that you’ll be placing inside the jar.

  2. Select a Container- you can use whatever jar you’d like to. Whether plastic, clay, or glass. Most use glass jars with a cork stopper. Whatever container that you use should have a top, and should contain no cracks.

  3. Choose Your Jar's Contents- depending on what the intention of the jar is depends on what the contents shall be. It may contain crystals, liquids such as honey, herbs, glitter, and more.

  4. Fill Your Jar- before filling your jar with the selected contents make sure to cleanse it. Whether with incense or even just salt water. After charging the items with your intent fill the jar; including your written intent.

  5. Seal Your Jar- once you’ve finished this replace the cover of your jar.

  6. Meditate on Your Intent.

  7. Finish Your Spell- this is when the candle magick comes into play. Depending on your intent will decide the color of candle you'll use to seal your jar. For example, pink for self love, black for protection, and green for money.

Once you’ve finished you can place the jar wherever you choose. You could bury it, toss it into water (depending on intent), place it on your altar, or even carry it with you. Just don’t burn it! Once you feel that the spell is no longer active, or needed you can dismantle it. To do this, remove the contents and bury them at a crossroads or into running water, clean the container. If done correctly you should be able to reuse the jar.
